Following the halting of the implementation of the 15% fees increment cumulative for five years at Makerere University by management pending the negotiation with students leadership, The students guild leadership led by its president Julius Kateregga has set four conditions before going into any dialogue with Makerere administration.
Addressing Journalists today afternoon, the guild president Julius Kateregga said management should first revoke suspensions and warning letters put to students.
They also want the University Council to be fully represented in the meeting since their efforts to meet them since the talk started are still futile.
They further do not want prof. Eriya Isagi the vice chancellor in charge finance and administration and security of the university and the personal assistant to the Vice Chancellor prof. Nawangwa not constitute the meeting claiming that they are the ones behind the “barbaric acts” and violence meted against students and journalists at the university
Mr. Kateregga Julius emphasised that they want the fee increment policy revised and degazzeted not just being halted.
He urges that whatever they are doing as students is not politically motivated but rather its a students fight for affordable education which must be heard and respected.
He further urged president Museveni to intervene in their issues and degazette the policy since the administration says its his directive
