Since Singer Bobi Wine also known as Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi was elected MP of Kyadondo East Constituency with an overwhelming victory, he decided to take his victory to different regions of the country especially by siding with most of opposition leaders.
In this strategy he managed to lead three candidates to the Uganda Parliament with tremendous victory in Bugiri, Rukungiri, Jinja and Arua respectively.
Before this many government leaders referred to the singer as a joker who can not create any impact in the country’s politics but this seemed to change after feeling the heat of his victory.
In Jinja, Bugiri and Arua there was several scuffles caused by police attempting to arrest Bobi wine allegedly for inciting violence as the legislator also complained of insults from police which left a number of his supporters arrested and detained with no clear charges.
The Arua by-election worsened the situation when presidential guards mistreated the legislator Robert ssrntamu kyagulanyi, Kasiano wadri ,Asuman Basalirwa, and mintyana Municipality Mp Francis Zzaake on charges of alleged stoning of the presidential motorcade when they were campaigning for Kasiano Wadri who later won the race despite the fact that he was in custody during the time of elections.
This act attracted massive condemnation of government by civil society, human rights activists, religious leaders, and the public both on local and international scenes.
Later government dropped charges of illegal possession of fire arms which Bobi wine was earlier subjected to and he and 29 other colleagues were released on bail.
However, the brutal murder of Yasin Kawuma who was Bobi Wine’ driver sparked off other frequent arrests and threats to many other members in community especially those leaning to people power.
Bobi wine’ body guard Eddy Mutwe was also arrested and detained first in unknown place but later he was taken to Gulu military barracks while several others were threaten with leaflets in their homes.
Kato Umar Kakumba a resident of kyengera Nabaziza Lc.1 a businessman and politician who did much mobilization for FDC in 2016 general elections but later started mobilizing for people power recently is one of the victims who have faced tough moments.
According to his wife Jane Nakachwa, Kato was earlier arrested and detained for a number of days in an unknown place and later released with out any charge against him.
She adds that leaflets holding information threatening to kill her husband and his family members if they don’t stop engaging in people power activities were thrown in his home in august 2018 and the case was reported to police.
She says her husband headed a delegation of people power supporters and they went to Magere where legislator Robert Kyagulanyi ssentamu kyadondo East Mp resides to welcome him from USA where he went for treatment after the torture he was subjected to.
He and his other colleagues took a number of items including hens, bananas, and other gifts and they had a joyful conversation as Kyagulanyi narrated to them whatever happened to him in Arua and the USA.
Nakachwa says this seems to have made matters worse because the following day their dog was found brutally killed and other threatening leaflets littered around their home.
This scared the family so much and this forced the husband into hiding and a case was reported to police however the spokes person kampala metropolitan area spokesperson Luke oweyesigire assured them of family security.
Many government officials like the fallen police spokes person Andrew Felix Kaweesa, former dpc Buyende Mohammad Kirumira and some moslem clerics have been killed when they were given body guard thus the family lost trust in the security forces.
The family lives in fear since up to now unknown people continue to come around Kato’s home for unknown reasons especially at night which has kept the family in total fear.
The above has left the family with no option but commit the situation into God’s hands for peace to prevail in the country in this year 2019.
