The Organizing committee for the 3rd June martyrs day celebrations at Namugongo is still fixed in a financial crisis of 250 million shillings required to meet the 500 million shillings that was budgeted for the event.
This has been revealed by the Hoima diocese Bishop Vicent Kirabo that will lead this year’s celebration after 17 years and the head of communications for the event Rev. Jude Ssemambo during a press conference at the catholic secretariat Nsambya were the arrangements for this year’s celebration were unveiled.
Now in abide to get the required funds, the committee has organized various fundraising events including a cultural gala at nderere centre Ntinda and martyrs walk from Munyonyo on the 20th and 27th this month respectively amongst others in addition to appealing to those that pledged to fulfill their pledges.
This year’ celebrations are expected to be attended by over three million pilgrims and will run under the theme: stand firm in the faith that you have been taught, appealing to everyone to be proud of is faith, be faithful in all their works, families and at national issues.
The pilgrims from Hoima diocese will start their journey on the 25th this month thus a call to support all the pilgrims as a way of exhibiting the country’s true character of being hospital.
The committee further assured the public the security, sanitation; care amongst others is going to be superb.
Hoima diocese which will lead this years’ celebration last led the celebrations 17 years back and on that day was the Pentecostal day unlike this year when it will be on the 4th of june.
Hoima has martyrs and these are Andereya Kagwa and Anatoli Kirigwajjo
Hoima diocese is working hand in hand with the episcopal conference, government and other well wishers. in abide to simplify its work it has set up other sub committees like for liturgy, communication amongst others.
