264 million shillings is to be spent in the by elections for kyadondo east constituency representative in parliament.
This has been revealed by the chairperson, electoral commission justice Byabakama mugenyi Simon at a press conference where the road map for the same by elections was unveiled.
According to the roadmap stakeholders meeting is due on the 22nd of this may, update of the national voters register will run from 22nd to 26th this may, display of the voters register 29th May to 7th June, nomination of candidates, inspection of nomination papers will be on 30th and 31th may, campaign meetings shall be held from 2nd to the 23rd June while polling and tallying shall take place on the 26th June.
Justice Byabakama has also revealed that apparently they are critically analysing the court judgement that pinned the electoral commission for not complying with the relevant laws hence nullification of the former legislator Apollo Katinti victory so that they take appropriate action against singled officer.s.
“we are critically analysing the judgement and identifying those areas that caurt pointed out in order to ensure that we avoid a repeat of the same mistakes and to determine what action to take against the people who are singled out to have aided some of these acts or misconducts that resulted into non observance of the law. ” said justice Byabakama
meanwhile Apollo Katinti whose victory was nullified by the court of appeal is dismayed with commission reluctance in clearing errors and holding accountable to its officers who failed to perform their duty deligently.
” we are coming back to the electorates who voted me into parliament however what is a bit absurd and disappointing is that the commission has set a date for the by elections before analysing the court ruling so how sure are they going to know that when they get the remedies they can fix the problem especially if it’s structural. It seems to me they are not doing their work fully well, they are punishing me, the electorates and tax payers since its their money to be spend in this by elections.” said Katinti
Still related the electoral commission is also set to hold the polling of the Toroma By elections on the 18th thats Thursday this week in the all the 54 polling stations and there after tallying will be held at Katakwi district returning officers office.
There are already eight dully nominated candidates and these include NRM’ kolou Joseph Andrew, FDC’ Odaka Martin Omeedo, UPC’ Omiat Andrew Joseph, osiya Solomon alem, itakorit Constantine, Aeku Patrick Edyangu, Ekongot John Robert and Imalingat Robert.
In the same way the commission is implementing the by elections programme for the Tororo district chairperson, nomination of the candidates is slated on the 24th and 25th of May while polling and tallying of the results will be on the 29th of June 2017.
