Hundreds of National Resistance Movement members from Nawaikoke Sub County in Kaliro district on Sunday evening surrendered their party cards and crossed to the Forum for Democratic Change over allegations of continued lies and empty promises.
While surrendering in their NRM membership cards at the FDC mobilization and area party office opening, Musango Moses a 10 year district speaker on NRM ticket who led the group said that they are tired of being lied too to the extent that their area MPs failed to consult them but rather blackmailed them they Kaliro people supported the amendment of article 102b late last years.
Musango added that internal mistreatments and vote rigging too forced them to quit the party which they have for years supported.
“There have been injustices like imprisonment in elections even during internal process of our party where we are supposed to be free has also made us to quit the NRM” Mr. Musango said
The smiling party president Eng Patrick Oboi Amuriat said that more of such rallies are to be conducted country wide and the constitution amendment won’t leave NRM MPs standing hence their target list has began yielding fruits.
“I have so far received over 1000 converts ever since I assumed office last year and specifically from NRM and the constitution amendment process has eased our mobilization campaign, we shall continue to carry out more recruitment campaigns” Smiling Eng Amuriat said.
However when we contacted the NRM secretariat spokesperson Roger Mulindwa, he refuted the number of converts saying that most of them were stage managed.
He added that though this happened but NRM and president Museveni shoud be applauded for creating a democratic oriented environment where each and everyone is free to cross from one party to another.
“Its true we had about the converts but these people were stage managed but in a democratic country every one is free to do whatever he or she wishes for as long as its legal.
The reason being advanced for defect of constitution amendment is wrong since NRM emerged as the winner hence they should stop hoodwink Ugandans on the same” Mr. Mulindwa responded.
The rally was attended by the FDC strong holds like Eng Patrick Oboi Amuriat the party president, Salam Musumba vice president eastern Uganda, Nathan Nandala Mafabi the party secretary general among others.
