Kampala capital city authority councilors and Lord mayor Erias lukwago are set to march to city centre in age limit amendment protest.
Addressing journalists at city hall on Wednesday, Deputy Lord Mayor Sarah Kanyike said they will be launching their Togibikula campaign with a march to the Constitutional Square tomorrow Thursday.
She accused the movers and pushers of the lifting of age limit of being so self centred, something they can’t allow this appealed to the NRM MPs to have respect for their electorates by leading by example not to tamper with the Constitution.
On her part the makerere university councilor Doreen Nyanjura said that they can’t tolerate anyone who wants to have article 102 (b) of the Constitution amended before committing that they will fight hard to see that the NRM MPs move fails.
Nyanjura said they will not be intimidated as they will start their procession from City Hall tomorrow to City Square where they would launch their Togibikula campaign against lifting of presidential term limits.
They said the march will be joined by Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago.
This means the councillors have joined a number of group who intend to carry out procession in protest of lifting of the presidential age limit including opposition political parties Forum for Democratic change FDC and Democratic Party DP.
On Thursday members of the ruling NRM led by Igara west MP Raphael Magyezi are expected to table a motion to parliament seeking leave of parliament to prepare a private members bill to amend article 102b of the constitution which puts the presidential age limit at 75 years
