Citizen Coalition for Electoral Democracy in Uganda (CCEDU) has clarified on its preliminary statement on Hoima district woman mp by-election that indicated the elections as free and fair.
In a statement issued by CCEDU Coordinator Crispin Kaheru, he said the statements that have met a lot of criticism in the public domain especially on social media are just preliminary statements thus calling for calmness among st the public as they wait for the final report release.
“We wish to clarify that our preliminary statement was released during polling and the vote counting exercise. The second statement was published after polling and upon the Electoral Commission (EC) announcing the results from the by-election on the morning of Friday 27th September 2019.
We therefore appeal to our members and the public to review both statements in context.
As modus operandi,CCEDU is set to issue a detailed report of what our Election Observation Mission (EOM) observed in the Hoima District Woman MP By-election conducted on 26th September 2019.
We will share our detailed report with our stakeholders at the earliest opportunity.” Statement reads in parts.
it should be noted that The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer won the Hoima by-election by more than 4,621 votes.
According to results that were announced by the Electoral Commission, the NRM candidate, Harriet Mugenyi Businge garnered 33,210 votes against 28,589 votes for the joint opposition candidate Asinansi Nyakato
