The prime minister Dr Ruhankana Rugunda sends his condolences to all the families that lost their loved ones and entire family within floods time while cut off roads and breakdown several houses and those with no food, Government is doing whatever it can to give them Support.
Rugunda who was receiving a donation from coca cola company Uganda of 180,000,000 (million Shillings) said that the floods comes because the environment has been damaged.
“The wetlands has been destroyed, forests, without planting news tree, this happens in our country but also happened in other countries and as a result of the world warming that taking place across the world is a negative impact on environment we can find our self in necked area especially when it comes on floods since we have started lost our people and so far 38 people already died” Said Rugunda
“Government acted well in this matter working with other agencies, like ministry of health (MOH), Uganda national roads authority (UNRA), Red cross and other civil society to protect and rescue people and we are still in need of blankets, food and other utilities from individuals and other companies, whoever has can continue provide them and taken to thos victims” added Rugunda
Commissioner disaster management, Martin Owor said that so far they have displaced 65250 families, over 6 million people homes affected. Homes have been washed away, roads are off, Bududa, Manafa, Sironko, Namisindwa, Kasese and Bundubujo.
“Total of 9126 average people lost their crops due to floods and properties destroyed, water diseases discovered I all the mentioned areas although Government through ministry of health are working closely to treat the matter, there need for safe water and still Government through ministry of water are working to solve the issue” Said Martin
General Secretary, Red cross Robert Kwesiga comfird the figures of of the people who died in this disaster and pledged to work as team always to keep people’s life.
“We are continuing working with district office looking the way forward how we can help those people and giving them first aid both in homestead and other utilities but we realised the course of this floods are cutting of trees and destroying nature” Said Kwesiga
Melkamu Abebe Coca Cola general manager, pledged and with to work with the Government by giving Support where it needs.
“As Coca Cola company Uganda, it’s our social responsibility and we care for this, whet we given is not much but at least Government can start from their as well as we call upon other corporate companies to come and join us in this noble course as we continue rescued people’s life” Said Abebe
The floods, as you know, have left several dozens dead, destroyed property worth billions of shillings, cut off roads, power lines and other essential services and left tens of thousands displaced
