The Democratic Party flag bearer who was duely nominated for kyadondo east parliamentary by elections race Lillian Babirye Kamoome has withdrawn from the race.
Her stepping down was reached in the meeting with party’ top leaders who sought it fit to rally behind one most strong candidate among which include the former legislator and FDC flag bearer Apollo kantinti, renowned musician Bobi Wine allias Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu on independent ticket and Muwada Nkunyingi who is FDC leaning though contested as independent.
This has been confirmed by DP party president Norbert Mao in a press briefing at their party headquarters in Kampala.
He said that their decision aimed at calming the pressure from supporters and opposition candidates who don’t only stop at bitter word exchange but also exchange blows.
Mao said in the next 20 hours they will meet all the opposition candidates and FDC officials so that they zero on one superior candidate in the race to avoiding losing the seat to the NRM flag bearer Sitenda Ssebalu and the person will be announced by Wednesday afternoon.
It should be noted that various efforts by the Forum for Democratic Change FDC officials to convince the independent candidates to withdraw from race to allow Apollo Katinti take up the position have been hitting a dead end.
