Opposition Democratic Party has put on hold it’s earlier plans to fill up vacant positions in the national executive committee during the National Council meeting to take place in Mbarara on the date yet to be announced.
DP President Norbert Mao told journslists that the revelation was reached on by the National Executive Committee NEC following an advise by their legal secretary Sam Muyiizi that the election will be null and void according to the political party and organizations act.
The law requires the political parties and organisations to first gazette the amendments before actualizing them in their constitution.
Despite the above Mao said that the constitution allows them to fill up some vaccant positions during their National Council but NEC decided not to elect in piece meals and to leave the job to the national delegates conference.
According to Mao the agenda for the National Council has now changed since its main focus will be on discussing and approving regulations that’s regulations on membership, finances, election procedures, code of conduct, compilation of an updated members register and disciplinary procedures.
