FDC wants UNBS budget for building laboratory increased

By Ronald Kabuye
Opposition Forum for Democratic Change FDC wants the budget of Uganda National Beureau of Standards UNBS for building the laboratory to test goods increased in order to fight the counterfeit products on the market that stands at 54%.
The call has been sounded by the party’s deputy spokesperson Hon Paul Mwiru during a weekly press conference at the party headquarters in najjankumbi.
It should be noted that UNBS asked for 480 billions for building laboratories but only 6 billion was allocated to them in the coming financial year 2018/2019.
FDC also wants the laboratory built even at the manufacturing companies so that the products are tested and certified before they are put on market.
Mwiru proposed that the presidential donations budget be cut from 136 billions per year to cater for laboratory building budget since counterfeit products have a direct bearing on both the health budget and the economy at large.
The call comes after the collapsing of the building at Buziga a Kampala suburb that left unknown number of people trapped in the building.
