FDC’s Muzanira wins Rukungiri election petition, court orders for fresh elections

By Ronald Kabuye

Appeal’s court has on Thursday morning nullified the election of ruling National Resistance Movement NRM Winfred Matsiko  as the validly elected Rukungiri women legislator.

the ruling has been made by the deputy chief justice Alphonse Owiny Dollo and justice Paul Mugambwa following a petition from Forum for Democratic Change FDC candidate Betty Muzanira contesting the results in 2016.

Muzanira petitioned the appeals court on grounds that the electoral commission committed errors during the announcement of results and declaration forms thus asking for a recount or fresh elections but this was over ruled in the lower courts
