Following the intensive pressure from Uganda Journalists Assoccition UJA members and some of its executive members to have the constitution accessible to all, the constitution has been found and made available but with a fee of 50,000 Ugandan shillings for a copy.
It should be noted that the current UJA president Mr. Robert Kagolo in his two terms in office he has been hiding the constitution to the extent that neither the executive members nor members would access it even during election time.
However credible sources revealed that it took the efforts of the association Secretary General Mr. Bayola Moses, the deputy spokesperson Mr Kigongo Issa, organising secretary Mr Mukisa Daniel and some other few members through their lawyer Isaac Ssemakadde Kimaaze to get the constitution from the registrar general that’s the first constitution and the amended copy from one of the former UJA administer name with held.
When contacted on why the constitution price is being inflated, Mr Bayola asserted that 50,000 is no money to those interested in the association especially aspiring leaders.
“This should not cause any alarm because even uganda’s constitution has price tag, you can not get it free of charge yet the government is supposed to translate it in different language and also distribute it to its citizens how about us who do not have resources?” said Moses
When asked when they intend to conduct elections since their term of office is soon ending, Moses said they intend to carry out the exercise by April this year.
Meanwhile must of the journalists we interacted with on the same matter appreciated the fact that their constitution is now accessible however they were against the fee levied on the copy of it.
It should be noted that most of the executive members are in bitter term with the president Mr Robert Kagolo who they accuse of abuse of office and at one time they attempted to impeach him however they had no constitution to guide the process at the time.
