The minister for justice and constitutional affairs maj gen Kahinda Otaffire has cautioned religious leaders against attacking other religions since the constitution grants every person a freedom to believe and worship as wishes as long as the way he does so is not against the laws of Uganda.
Ottafire made the remarks during the consecration of father Jacinto Kibuuka as the first Bishop ever for Central and care taker of Eastern provinces in Uganda in the evangelical Oarthdox Catholic Church (Antioch church) at Mamre prayer centre international Janda Namugongo.
Ottafire wondered why a leader from another church would persecute a person who left his church and joined another independent church, continue labelling him all uncalled for sort of names and portraying him as un Godly yet he is a fellow clergy hence committing that government will always stand by the Antioch church in all times.
“whenever you are persecuted for your faith, I can assure you that the government of Uganda is there to shoulder you” said Ottafire
He also appealed to the public and religious leaders to always preach and preserve peace before asserting that exclusion in the constitution especially in terms of age limitations might result in to a disaster in the country since it might anger those oppressed to fight for their Democratic rights.
On his part, Bishop Jacinto Kibuuka thanked everyone who has stood by him since childhood adding the he will not get engaged in any physical fight with anyone however much he is provoked, blackmailed and condemned by religious leaders and people since his mission is to serve the lord and his people.
Amidst the momoth of people, numerous dignitaries, clergies from other religions and over thirty bishops who attended the function, Bishop Kibuuka introduced the team he will execute his duties with which includes father Vincent Kisenyi Byansi as the vicar general, father Innocent Lulwangira as the chancellor, father Joseph Birungi as the pastoral and missions coordinator in the central provinces, father John Baptist Matovu as the secretary general, John Paul Kasujja as the personal assistant, maama Denise Nansamba as the treasurer, others include Musomesa Emmanuel Kasule, Vincio Lukwago, Moses Lyomoki, father Deogratious Opio and Mother Olivia Nanyange.
After being consecrated by the presiding Bishop for Antioch church in Uganda Tom Kiiza, his Co-consecrator bishop George Otieno clarified and emphasised that they are One holy Apostolic Catholic Church but they are not Roman Catholic Church and not rebellious as they are labelled.
“we have been Labelled rebellious but we preach God’s word and serve our master Jesus Christ now who are we rebellious too?” questioned Bishop Otieno.
Bishop Kibuuka will also throw a thanks giving party next Saturday at Mamre prayer centre.
On the event Maj.Gen Kahinda Otaffire gave Bishop Kibuuka two cows.
