Gilbert Arinaitwe Bwana arrested over rape


Gilbert Arinaitwe Bwana, a police officer who was plunged in the limelight after he doused Dr Kizza Besigye with pepper during Walk-to-Work campaign in 2011,A file photo of ASP Arinaitwe (R has been detained on allegations that he raped a student.

Police spokesperson, Mr Asan Kasingye, confirmed the arrest of Assistant Superintendent of Police Arinaitwe on Friday after he allegedly raped a teenage girl in his vehicle at Nakawa, a Kampala suburb.

Mr Kasingye said Mr Arinaitwe was redeployed to the Criminal Intelligence Department (CID) in April last year after spending five years on suspension.

He reportedly exchanged telephone contacts with the girl at CID headquarters in Kampala where the girl had been taken by her mother to be counselled on her unbecoming sexual desires that had affected her academic performance.

Police’s public image was soiled badly, they had to suspend the police officer. His life there after went south: He lost income and his family crumbled. There were rumors in 2015 that he run mad, which rumors were later debunked by police.

Later last year, however, he fell back into his employers’ graces and he was redeployed. He also found God, and because a preacher.

Recently he was found preaching fervently and exorcising demons from people at a “Redeemed Church” in Masajja.
