Ministry of health has resorted to effective social marketing health communication in abide to improve efficiency and thorough utilisation of the rightful available services and products.
This has been revealed by the ministry’s permanent Secretary Dr. Diana Atwine while launching the 1st ever Uganda social marketing conference due on the 12th to 13th of October at imperial royale hotel in Kampala under the theme “fostering sustainable behaviour and health markets through social marketing”
Atwine said that social marketing increases public access, demand and utilisation of health products and services thus the need to embrace knowledge and best practices to have better health behavioural change.
“when people know they will not only demand and utilize the services but also will be empowered with options especially on how to prevent diseases and go for routine check ups especially in those hard to reach areas.
The solution is not in building more hospitals but behavioural change” said Atwine
In the same way atwine cautioned media houses against airing wrong messages about health since the culprits will be apprehended and charged in the courts of law.
“some media houses have been knowingly or unknowingly airing out lies especially by herbalists which makes a bigger damage and the ministry together with other entities like Uganda communication commission will not hesitate to arrest the culprits” Atwine added.
On behalf of the Uganda Health Marketing Group UHMG, Denis Ahairwe said social marketing will help to save the population and their teaming up with ministry of health to see that no woman dies while giving birth and those below five years.
The conference will bring together health experts, academia,communicators amongst others across the globe hence it will provide great learning opportunities and networking opportunities.
