Mukono Municipality legislator Betty Nambooze Bakireke has been arrested on Wednesday morning from her home over statements on social media which security agencies say might have led to the assassination of the slain Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga.
Hon. Nambooze was picked from her home by police led by Mukono police DPC Rogers Sseguya Which drove her to Jinja road police station for questioning and to make statements.
Police spokesperson on Tuesday revealed in a statement that before Abiriga’s murder Hon. Nambooze, Raymond Soulfa, alias peng peng, Nasser Mugerwa and Jane Kuli were to be arrested for offensive communication.
By press time Nambooze’s lawyers led by Kampala lord mayor Erias lukwago, Sam Muyiizi and Busiro East legislator were already at Jinja road police for legal assistance.
Other leaders include fdc’s Ingrid Turinawe, Lubaga south and makidye west legislators Kasibante Moses and Allan Ssewanyana who have condemned Nambooze’s arrest.
Col. Abiriga and his brother Said Buga Kongo were assassinated by unknown gunmen at Kawanda Matugga wakiso district on their way back home.
It should be noted that after age limit removal Nambooze made public statements even on her facebook page that those who supported age limit will be punished by aggrieved members of the public.
Peng peng released a video cautioning other members of ruling NRM after the assassination of Abiriga .
Mr Mugerwa is alleged to have released an audio urging Abiriga killers to look for more NRM MPs while Kuli allegedly posted a message on Facebook, saying the deceased would be killed in the first week of June.
