Mukono municipality legislator Betty Nambooze Bakireke has revealed that she is embarking on the campaign to collect signatures from the people of the districts of Mukono, Wakiso and Mpigi with aim of blocking the processing of the Kampala Capital City Authority KCCA amendment bill which she says has extended the city to the above mentioned districts without the people’s concent or leaders as stipulated in the constitution.
Addressing a news conference at Parliament Nambooze highlighted that the movers of the bill deleted the article from KCCA act 2010 that established the metropolitan physical planning authority and substitute it with the greater Kampala metropolitan authority which takes away the powers of the affected parts where Kampala is going to be extended.
Nambooze added that they are going to petition the world bank that is funding the projects for the people of Kampala who have been consulted on the bill.
She adds that during the processing of the bill the leaders from Mukono, Wakiso and Mpigi have to be consulted as the law stipulates but they have never been consulted.
Nambooze added that she has also written to the speaker of Parliament to stop the process of the bill as its not in the favour of the people of Uganda.
She also added that she is going to mobilize members of Parliament and other leaders from the affected parts to start holding rallies and sensitize people about the dangers of this bill if passed into law.
