Hon Wakayima narrowly survives a 6 months jail sentence over election petition debt

Former Nansana municipality legislator and Democratic Party member Wakaima Musoke has on Wednesday afternoon survived being taken to Luzira over a 12M Uganda shilling debt balance arising out of a lost election petition when Hon Kasule Robert Ssebunya was declared a winner without a by-election.

Wakaima who had come to witness the proceedings of an election matter filed by his voters challenging the manner, under which Ssebunya was declared, was arrested by court bailiffs immediately after leaving court.

Court ordered Wakayima to pay Ssebunya 153M shillings which he has been paying and a total of 141M had been paid

Though Wakaima was presented before justice Esther Nambayo who had earlier threatened sending him to Luzira civil prison but after Mr. Lule Kennedy Bernand counsel for Wakayima managed to convince and promised to pay in installments beginning with half (6m) on 4th June, 3M on 29th July and clear the balance on 25th August which the judge agreed and set him free on condition that failure to comply, Wakayima will be sent to prison.
