Opposition strongman and also Forum for Democratic Change FDC presidential flag bearer DR. Kizza Besigye has vowed not to return to Nakawa Magistrate Court where he appears for mention for treason charges.
Dr. Besigye’ told Nakawa Grade One magistrate Noah Sajjabi that he is constrained to keep on appearing in court for the case which has now taken eight months without concluding investigation and no sign of completing investigation soonest.
“I will not be able to return in this court until prosecution completes investigation if it done you informs and I return” Besigye told magistrate
Besigye statements followed a request by the state prosecutor Rachael Nabwire to have the case adjourned to enable the state finalize with investigations which Besigye.
Speaking to journalists outside court, Besigye said emphasized the same however he said he will continue reporting to the high court in fulfillment of his bail conditions.
However the presiding grade one magistrate Noah Ssajabi cautioned the four time presidential aspirant against overstepping his powers by refusing to appear before the court for the mention of his Treason case.
The Magistrate instead advised Besigye to seek redress in the high court where he secured his bail since his court as no mandate to hear the case but rather only handles mention and committal to the superior court thus adjourning the matter to the 27th of February this year.
Besigye is charged with treason with the prosecution alleging that Besigye committed treason when he sworn himself as the president of Uganda which warranted his arrest on a day before President Museveni swearing in ceremony.
