The Kawempe division mayor Emanuel Sserunjoji has appealed to government to increase on the number of universal schools and health centers within the division and to reduce, eliminate on unemployment, crime rates and improving health conditions.
This while delivering the first ever state of the division address saying that, Kawempe is among the highly populated divisions of Kampala city with around 400,000 people according to the national housing and population census provisional results, November 2014 but its has the least number of government schools and health centers to facilitate its population which has slowed development within the division compared to the rest.
He adds that Kawempe as a division needs at least to inject more UGX5b into health services and to construct one health center at parish level as a measure to curb down both communicable and non communicable diseases specifically attributed to poor hygiene and sanitation such as malaria, typhoid, tetanus, cholera among others.
Meanwhile Sserunjoji further urged government to expeditiously give all Kampala divisions mandate to operate on a budgetary system rather operating on speculations without accountability which has hindered effective and efficient service delivery despite the many challenges still encountered with such construction of drainage channels, roads, among others.
