KCCA has allocated over 5bn to develop Kitintale market in the next financial year after defeating Makindye, USAFI and Nateete markets in the bidding process.
Speaking to the area Nakawa I woman lord councilor Alice Amony who was submitting the 2018/19 budget proposal to the 11 Nakawa I parish councilors who had converged at Mbuya parents’ kindergarten school said that the bid was tense between 3 markets but she managed to convince city hall council gender committee who later accepted her plea.
“After realising that our markets are becoming smaller compared to the vendors, we tried to find which market still has a bigger space to accommodate more vendors, kintintale emerged as the first priority from other markets that include Nateete, Makindye, Kawempe and USAFI thus the gender committee accepting that the 5bn be allocated to Kitintale though the authority had instead wanted to add it to USAFI where tax payers’ money upto now hasn’t been recovered” Amony explained
“It wasn’t an easy bid but I thank the committee for having accepted my plea” Amony expressed happiness.
