LOCAL COUNCIL ELECTIONS FURTHER DELAYED PENDING RELAEASE OF 15.9 B FROM GOV’T

Ugandans will have to await a little longer for elect their local council and women leaders.

This has been revealed by the electoral Commission Chairperson Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon in a press conference held at commission headquarters.

Byabakama said that the commission is in the process of developing the necessary guidelines for the various activities that will be conducted leading to the elections and in the due process it will issue the roadmap for the elections pending the release of the 15.9 billion shillings needed from government to conduct the elections.

Byabakama also clarified that as the official mandated entity to declare dates for particular elections, they have never declared or delegated any person or organization to announce the polling dates for the LC1,2, Women councils/committees from village to national level as the propaganda being spread states.

When asked whether people will have to line up from morning until the tallying time reaches, Byabakama said that will be addressed in the guidelines being formulated.
