Kampala: Lohana Academy (School) has refuted allegations of malicious information being circulated on social media platforms in regards to mistreated it’s pupils/students with corporal punishment and racism.
Speaking to www.pressug.com today at Lohana/academy/School, the head teacher Margaret Kafeero refuted the malicious statement purportedly from one of students reportedly known as “Tisha” where she claims that Lohana academy school administration mistreats her.
” having checked our records back and forth, we confirm that we don’t have any pupil currently registered at Lohana Academy by the names of “Tisha” therefore, we refute such misleading information” Said Kafeero
The head teacher Margaret Kafeero added that Lohana academy is one of the three Lohana schools operating in Uganda since 1995 to date with undisputed track record of excellence in education, discipline, value, hygiene and the general care of our pupils.
“Currently we have 1497 pupils, 97% of whom are Ugandan Pupils and only 3% are non Ugandan meaning Lohana academy is not an international School but it’s a local community school that teaches all children and follows Uganda National Examination Board “UNEB” curriculum from nursery to primary 7 with Primary Leaving Examination and we currently have 60 teaching staff who are all Ugandan” Said Kafeero
However, on the issue of continuous inspection by the school administration, Kafeero clarified that Parents do pack lunch for their children but emphasize that food must be warm, delivered at 12:30PM to enable general supervision of the same and also allow the intended Pupils eat together with the rest of the school dining hall, only at the designated place, monitored by the school administration for safety of the children, this is meant to control pupils from eating at different interval since would disrupt pupils days learning cycle.
“A bout 98% of pupils, all the staff, eat same lunch cooked by the school, therefore, the allegations that quality of food can be compromised in anyway at our school, is unfortunate. cooks are instructed to give more food to pupils who feel they want more after the first service” Said Kafeero
“Following this malicious statement, we alerted police to investigate the sources (matter) and intention of this information for possible prosecution because the head teacher and the principal office are always wide open to address any issue from parents and Pupils for solutions” Kafeero Told PressUg
Finally, Kafeero insisted that corporal punishment are against the school rules and regulations, the ministry of education and Lohana academy board of trustees, teachers are clearly instructed and reminded during staff meeting and it stated in the terms and conditions of employment to pupils, fortunate enough, this has been the Lohana Academy norm since it’s inception of schooling.
