Police has today Tuesday morning arrested both Kampala lord mayor Erias Lukwago and Kawempe north MP Mubaraka Munyagwa alias Mugati gwabata while inspecting park yard Market following a letter dated 20th/02/2017 issued by Kampala minister Betty Olive Namisango Kamya to park yard management ordering them to vacate the place within 30 days.
While speaking to media during the arrest, the RPC Kampala south, Godfrey Kahebwa who commanded the operation, urged the public to abide by the law and government’s programs as a cornerstone to development to graduate to a middle income status by 2020.
He also appealed to all political leaders not to engage political issues in government’s plans; however the traders who were extremely angry and hostile emphasized that they will not vacate the place till the government comes up with constructive means for them.
According to Kahebwa, the duo has been taken to Central police station (CPS) Kampala for further investigation however Makindye west MP Allan Ssewanyana managed to escape the arrest
Meanwhile According to Kasim Ssebadduka, chairperson of the market, described government’ actions as unfair and unjust hence appealing to president museveni to expeditiously intervenein their issues
He further appealed to the vendors to stay calm as they strive to find a lasting solution to the situation.
Police also arrested 8 vendors in the operation and these include James Ssevuume, David Byaruhanga, Ndegeya Kisakye, Drago Waswa, Twaibu Matovu, Dan Katongole, Henry Lugemwa and a one lady Annet Kigere
