Medics at Uganda Heart Institute (UHI) want parliament to pass the Health Insurance bill to enable the poor who can’t afford treatments bills especially outside the country also attain proper medical attention.
The wave of increasing diagnosis of heart diseases among Ugandans has caused a lot of anxiety among members of the public yet heart disease represents a varied group of diseases involving the heart and blood vessels.
In addition, congenital heart disease is a condition where a hole develops in the heart making it tight, limits blood flow an it’s an abnormality which starts right at birth.
According to Dr Omagino John the Executive Director of UHI, heart diseases also have a strong environmental aspect related to diet or lifestyle however noted that the national health insurance scheme will help them handle it since it’s treatment very expensive.
Dr Omagino who was addressing Media about the state of UHI said that they can now do operations and advised Ugandans not to waste money traveling outside for treatment of heart related diseases since they can access the same treatment here in Uganda.
Dr Omagino however, said that the cases of people diagnosed with heart problems are on increment every day which says must be addressed.
Meanwhile Dr Omagino is happy that UHI has the capacity to treat and carry out operations on diseases related to heart problems
