AMIT (India) beat Juma Miiro 5-0

(Miiro wins bronze)

Juma Miiro’s dream of eclipsing his brother Fazil Kaggwa’s achievement in the ring did not come to pass on Friday.

Miiro overwhelmingly lost his semifinal bout to AMIT from India which means the Ugandan will return home with a bronze medal like his brother Kaggwa did four years ago.

Miiro had vowed to go two steps better than Kaggwa by winning Commonwealth Games boxing gold but as is the norm, what you wish for and what actually happens can be very different things.

The defeat of Miiro, who was the last Ugandan boxer standing, marked the end of the country’s boxing campaign at the Gold Coast with one medal – bronze.
