Mobile Money operators under their umbrella body “Kampala Mobile money dealers association” have threatened to lay down their tools from 11/07/2018, in protest of 1% mobile Money tax.
Led by Mathias Lukyamuzi, the Chairman Kampala Mobile money dealers association, operators said the move is purposely intended to express their grievances in a bid to improve their business saying despite President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, recently reduced this tax from 1% to 0.5% , to-date it has not been fully implemented though they want even the 0.5% to be removed.
He further highlighted other taxes levied on mobile money thus condemning government for being greedy which has forced many of their colleagues out of business due to high taxation.
Meanwhile the operators lashed at legislators for consistently passing unnecessary laws which are anti locals.
They however appealed to minister of finance, planning and economic development Matia Kasaija to step down who they accused of misleading the public by giving 1% instead 0.5%.
