Jinja High court Judge Justice Eva Luswata has today afternoon granted bail to the Rwenzururu king Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere.
While delivering her ruling, justice Luswata granted Omusinga a non cash bail of 500 million and each of his sureties’ 100 million non cash.
She also prohibited the Omusinga from travelling to the districts of Kasese, Kabarole and Bundibugyo.
In her ruling justice Luswata alluded to the fact that bail is a constitutional right and the fact that Omusinga has fulfilled what is required for bail like having fixed places of abode which include the one in Muyenga and Kases.
However by the time of delivering this ruling his sureties who also happen to be MPS from kasese region were absent in court.
Yesterday in the hearing of bail application Omusinga through his lawyers assembled Members of Parliament from Kasese district as his sureties and these included Winnie Kizza, Nzoghu William and Muhindo Harold and former Rwenzururu kingdom prime minister Bwambale Constantine.
Caleb Alaka, one of Mumbere’s lawyers, also told court that he has a fixed place of abode at Muyenga Cell, Nyakabingo II in Kasese and in Makindye in Kampala. He however asked court that for purposes of being within the court’s jurisdiction, Mumbere will be staying in Kampala and will only travel to Kasese with permission from court.
