“It’s official. We are participating in our first ever Pearl of Africa Rally Championship. See you in Busika and Kayunga on 2nd and 3rd August.” Reads the Rally Team official statement as headed by Rajiv Ruparelia confirming their official ambitions to stay on the rallying page.
First, it was at the VW Polo Proto rally entry in Uganda with that fabulous launch still by the team and its driver/owner Rajiv Ruparelia.
Today, just one months to the most competitive Motorsport event in the region- the Vivo sponsored Pearly of Africa rally Championship, Rajiv a very passionate businessman confirms his team-Rajiv Ruparelia Rally Team will be among the many regional teams and drivers to compete in Busika and Kayunga.
Rajiv, who says he is a simple man, hard worker with many referring to him as a businessman, is actually now a tested, proved and passed rally driver ready enough to give the Sebuguzis of this sport the run for their money behind the steering and the wheels speeding sport.
Rajiv is the owner of the latest rally car in Uganda VW Polo Proto and this gives him advantage over many drivers despite the fact that he is only months into the motoring sport. he confirms his passion for the game because he loves cars and loves speed. He actually says he is 10 years late for rallying because he should have joined in at the age of 19.
It is not by mistake though that Rajiv joins Motorsport. Riyaz Kurji the fallen rally car driver who lost life in that fatal, then KCB sponsored Pearl of Africa famous rally car accident in Naama flying finish in Mityana on 2nd May 2009 was his blood uncle.
Riyaz Kurji-RIP was Uganda’s leading rally driver and Director of Alpha Diary team. He was pronounced dead on the scene of a horrific high speed crash of his Subaru N8 car. Rajiv therefore comes in the motorsport in his uncle’s feet. What the World awaits to witness though is his ability to rally, win season in and out. Then the World will say he fits exactly in the big shoes of his uncle Kurji. Welcome and Race Rajiv!
