Nurses, Midwives postpone their strike to Saturday

Nurses and midwives under their umbrella body the uganda nurses and midwives Union UNMU have extended the commencement of their strike which was supposed to start today to Saturday this week.

The move is aimed at giving ample time to government to work on their demands which include salary enhancement, promotions amongst others.

The decision was as a result of their meeting they held with the head of state president Yoweri Kagutta museveni on Monday who requested for more time to have their issues worked .
This has been communicated by the UNMU general secretary Mr Paul Bukenya who also revealed that today they have a meeting with the ministry of public services officials also aimed at furthering their dialogue as they wait until Saturday, the day president promised to call an emergency cabinet meeting to deliberate on their issues and give a final decision on the same.
In the same way the chairperson of National Organization of Trade Union, NOTU Usher Wilson Owere, said he is happy for the progress so far registered adding that they will not tire on engaging government
