Police in Kampala have on Monday morning arrested two of the three pigs which have been dropped around bank of Uganda allegedly by a group calling its self the anti-corruption and theft crusaders in a protest against the alleged theft and corruption scandals in central and the entire banking sector.
These animals had tags containing four names of some of the officials from the banking sector namely the Governor Mr. Tumusiime Mutebire, his deputy Mr. Louis Kasekende, Edith Kasekende the wife to Kasekende and the outgoing DFCU bank Executive Director Juma Kisaame.
The tags had words accusing these officials of eating from national coffers and indigenous banks.
“You ate bank Greenland bank, Allied bank, crane bank, UCB etc who’s next” Mutebire, Mr. and Mrs. Kasekende tags read. “Stop fraud” Mr. Kisaame’s tag read in parts.
As these animals were loitering in the road at the bank of Uganda gate opposite grand imperial hotel, a security operative in non-uniform picked two of them and headed to CPS before finding uniformed officers whom he handed over the animals and later returned to pick the other one but only to find when it was allegedly taken by unidentified Ugandan. While speaking to one of the eyewitness who openly narrated but declined to give out her name said that they abruptly saw these pigs but failed to know who exactly dropped them at the bank gate and that she wasn’t sure of the exact number.
“We just saw pigs but I can’t tell the exact number whether five or three being dropped by unknown people from a sack and took off before a man picking some and took them before a heavy deployment of police officers arrived here” Eyewitness narrated.
We tried to speak to C/ASP Ivan Nduhura who was leading the operation but we couldn’t but this website learnt from his conversations and orders to his team that he had intelligence there was other group from Jinja road also planning to do the same.
We have tried to reach out to several activists groups known for this act that is: the jobless brotherhood, The Alternative and anti-corruption crusaders but all distanced the demonstration though all applauded the brave Ugandans for the act.
This comes in a time when some of the officials were expected to appear before the COSASE committee of parliament on the related allegations.
