Police cautions FDC against today’s parallel Labor Day celebrations

By Mukose Arnold Anthony
The Uganda police force has acknowledged to having received a letter from the opposition Forum for Democratic change (FDC) notifying their move to organize a parallel function today in Njeru municipality Buikwe district.

The police mouth piece Afande Emilian Kayima said that though they received and cleared their function but it has been done on one condition that it should happen tomorrow not today when the country is holding its national functions in Ssembabaule district

Kayima added that they agreed that it should happen on 2rd not 1st and according to FDC letter and that any functions beyond that agreement wont be allowed today.

“The FDC 2rd (Wednesday) May labor day functions have been cleared by my bosses and have been advised to work with the area RPC and follow the POMA because they wrote to us letting us know about their mobilization campaign and they were cleared but I have to make it categorically clear that its should be 2rd not 1st like they allege and if they have other arrangements beyond the ones I know, am not aware” Afande Kayima warned

However when this website contacted the deputy FDC spokesperson Paul Mwiru assured and called upon members and supporters to converge in large numbers at the venue.

“We haven’t received any letter to that effect from the police and our arrangements are as communicated yesterday so whoever thinks we’re not in Njeru  just come and be part of us today (Tuesday)” Mwiru warned

But according to liable sources in FDC, Dr. Kizza Besigye who was supposed to be the chief guest couldn’t attend after hearing the police claims wuth a fear that he could be detained and denied a chance to participate in tomorrow’s Runkungiri woman MP nomination where their own Betty Muzanira is expected to be nominated.

“My brother, we’re just going to hold in door meetings because the top leaders have withdrawn after receiving police letter and peoples President Dr. Kizza Besigye has declined to participate with fear that they can detain him and deny him a chance to participate in Rukungiri woman MP nomination”  Anonymous source revealed
