In just two weeks of their inter agencies combat operations and routine patrolsin Kampala metropolitan areas, police has arrested 113 high profile criminals, six being women and recovered various weapons including guns.
Addressing the press today, the Kampala metropolitan police commander Frank Mwesigwa paraded weapons which the suspected criminals have been using to terrorise the public and they included among others unmarked AK47 gun with 24 rounds of amisons picked up from wakiso, a revolval pistol with 9 rounds of amisons, a toy pistol, 5pangas, 13 knives, 3 pick axes, 2 axes, 2 heavy duty cutters, 3 axles, 4 master keys, 6 pliers, one spear, 4 iron bars, 2 bags of opium, 15 motor vehicles and 4 motorcyclists they have been using for their transportation.
Mwesigwa explained that some the victims have recorded statements, identified some the criminals and their stolen property which has eased police work with now having 92 of the suspects charged and remanded to Luzira prison on charges of aggrevated robbery, robbery, burglary, theft in all Kampala metropolitan area magistrate court including Nakawa, Mengo, kajjansi, Nabweru, Buganda road magistrate courts.
Some of the recovered stolen property include 30 monitors, 15 CPU, 10 TVs, 15 mobile phones, 5 TV decoders, 20 ATM cards among others.
Mwesigwa said that they have been able to arrest the suspects on intelligence from the public and in the course of their work they realised that the criminals have command structures.
mean while Mwesigwa said that registration work of boda bodas in Kampala metropolitan area has reached 70 percent with the major aim of linking boda boda riders to near by police station.
” we are on 70 percent in the all of KMP areas in terms of registering and linking stages to the near by police stations since almost every stage there is police deployment either a motorcycle, motor vehicle, or static deployment which are being supervised by a station near by.” said Mwesigwa
“So the purpose is to build relationship with boda bodas in terms of sharing information and raising their consciousness.” he added.
