The uganda police force has embarked on the programme to register all motorcyclists (boda boda riders) and their gazetted stages which registration will be limited to only national identity cards, driving permit and stage numbers.
This has been revealed by the inspector general of police Gen. Edward Kale Kayihura who said this is one of the measures to curb the gaps in the security system and after which they will embark on other projects like restoration of ten houses(mayumba Kumi) which in the past they used to monitor the security at village levels.
Kayihura said that the boda boda groups will be excluded in this project since they are not organised and have their own wrangles though they will work hand in hand with Kampala Capital City Authority KCCA.
He appealed to the public to always be vigilant and not board boda bodas they find isolated on the streets and they find on the way but rather board those on the stages and endeavour to get contacts of the stage chairperson in case any thing goes wrong.
Kayihura also cautioned the crime investigation division CID in the police to clean it’s self since they are his next target.
Kayihura bragged on how they have managed to organise the police leadership that’s  regional and divisional police commanders but they still have a problem with the CID who said they will clean them up easily.
