Police has this Thursday morning shortly arrested and freed six journalists who had converged at city square Kampala  as their meeting point before heading for the burial of fallen veteran journalist, dramatist, musician Elias Mulindwa muwonge in kyabakuza masaka who succumbed to hypertension on Wednesday evening.
Police led by CPS Kampala DPC Joseph Bakaleke first rounded up and arrested four journalists who included Kigongo issa, Kiyingi Godfrey, Patrick Mugerwa and taken to the O/C’ office before bringing in more two journalists that’s Tamale Aidan Mukasa and Esther Nakawooya who were also arrested from the same point.
According to Kigongo issa while at the O/ C’ office police brought in two youths who were putting on green Democratic Party T shirts donning words that were against the lifting of presidency age limit who claimed that they were part of the journalists.
“after about 15 minutes they freed us without any charges preferred against us neither did they explain to us why we were arrested.
They had taken away our telephones from us ” said Issa
When reached for the comment Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson Emilian kayima surprising denied the
journslists arrests.
“No journalist is arrested. One who was rounded up in our operation is freed. Take heart. No one is after your life dear journalists” said Kayima
