Police have asked motorists using the Entebbe Express way that is still under construction to be careful of robbers.
Mr Emilian Kayima, the police spokesperson, on Monday said robbers are taking advantage of absence of officers on the highway since it’s incomplete to waylay motorists and rob them of their valuables.
“We ask the public to be very careful when using Entebbe Express because it is still under construction and not open to the public. Criminals are taking advantage and robbing drivers especially in the night hours. You are safer using a good road that is opened despite being congested,” Mr Kayima said.
In recent weeks, many people have been robbed by armed gunmen.
Mr Kayima said they have contacted the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) to provide security is on the route.
Mr Allan Ssempebwa Kyobe, UNRA spokesperson, said they are working with police to help in providing security at Entebbe Express way.
“Last year gangs had made it a routine to stop vehicles and demanding for money. As UNRA we could not stop the criminality but we involved Kampala Metropolitan police that helped us to arrest all criminals. We are going to do the same because that route is still in our mandate,” Mr Kyobe said
