Powerlifter Roy Mubiru wins Gold, misses out on world record


Uganda’s heavy weight powerlifter Roy Mubiru wins another gold medal at the 2019 WPA World Cup powerlifting Invitational Championships held Bremerton Washington on Sunday.
Mubiru won his age group  category of 40-45 years under  the 124kg tested raw class.
This brings it to a total of  four gold medals he has won this year, two won at  2019 World cup of powerlifting  championships that were held in Ukraine, May this year and other gold he picked earlier at world cup warm up at 32rd Annual CAN-AM International championships that were held in Brattleboro,USA.
However, Mubiru missed out on breaking a world record in his category that’s demanded him to a total lift of 2000 kilograms in three styles deadlift, Squat and bench  press.
He plans to make another attempt for the world record breaking in May next year, Canada.
Mubiru will be part of the Uganda team participating in the inugural All African Nations powerlifting championship that’s to attract seven African countries to be held in Kampala, at MTN Arena, November 3rd,2019.
Nations that’s have indicated interest in participating include Cameroon, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya,  South Africa, plus host Uganda as Rwanda and Tanzania are yet to confirm.
