President Museveni Cancels National Address
By: Denis Kayongo. Museveni Cancels Planned National Address Minutes After Bobi wine Announcing His at The Same Time.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni also known as Tibuhaburwa has minutes ago called off his planed national address which was going to be broadcasted live on all Radios and Televisions in the country like it was the case during the Covid-19 lockdown.
Museveni’s was set to be speaking to the country every Sunday on matters of national address starting today following widespread protests which were sparked by the arrest of presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi wine.
This Move was met with resistance from the Media owners under their body of National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) who in a strong worded letter requested for clarifications from the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC).
According to media owners, the president is a presidential candidate for the 2021 general elections and his address might be perceived by their audiences as Campaign message yet according to the minimum broadcasting standards provided under the Uganda Communications Act 2013, demands of broadcasters to be and give every contender for a public office an equal opportunity o such programming.
Media owners further requested the UCC to provide guidance and incase the president’s address was to be kind of campaign style, broadcasters should be paid since the electoral commission announced candidates for the 2021 general elections will reach masses via media especially radio and televisions.
However, in a twist of events, people are contending that presidential aspirant Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu of the national Unity platform also announced he will be communicating to his supporters at the same time 7:00pm today and it might be the reason why Tibuhaburwa called off his.
