President Museveni has summoned the Makerere University council and management to statehouse in Entebbe to discuss to comprehensively discuss the future of the university.
We learnt that among other issues they are to discuss include measures of revamping the university image and finding a suitable date for reopening the ivory tower for the student to complete their first semester which started in late August but was cut short on November 1 when the president directed for the closure of the university following a sit-down strike by lecturers over incentive arrears amounting to 28 billion then.
This summon comes shortly after makererere University academic indefinitely suspended their strike on Monday to create a conducive environment for the negotiations.
Inside sources revealed that the university might be reopened in early January 2017.
Meanwhile, the vice chancellor of Makere University Prof John Ddumba Ssentamu, has refuted the viral messages that he has resigned his position as VC attributing it to those fighting him and harboring selfish interests.
He say if was to resign he would have do it at the time of the closure of the university not now when the university is stabilizing especially after the lecturers called off their strike.
