Teaching and non-teaching staff from the public universities under their umbrella Forum for Academic Staff of Public Universities in Uganda (FASPU) and Public Universities Non- Teaching Staff Executive Forum (PUNTSEF), have issued a reminder to government to include their salary increment in the coming financial year as pledged by president Museveni in 2015.

Addressing journalists at Makerere University, the chairperson of FASPU Dr. Grace Lubaale and the chairperson of Puntsef Mr. Betihamah Jackson requested the ministry of finance and the line ministries to increase the salary of professors to 15 million from 10 million monthly, pro-rata.

They say that they have been patient for four financial years hence its time to have the president’s pledge fully fulfilled.

When computed the money needed translates into at least 200 billion shillings.

However, the leaders declined to reveal their next cause of action in case the president’s pledge is not implemented, arguing that it will be left to the general assembles to advise them.
