Kakwenza Rukira Bashaija has been rushed to one of the health facilities in Iganga to be treated and given medical attention after alleged subsequent torture he underwent through in police custody.
Kakwenza who has been granted non cash bail of 10m on Wednesday morning by Iganga Magistrates’ court under HW Wakabi Edward and Basima Eva, is being charged of “Doing an act likely to spread the infection of disease of caps 171 of Penal Code Act.
According to his lawyer Eron Kiiza of Kiiza and Mugisha, told this website that, his client sustained injuries which he was subjected to during security custody and were taking him for examination and treatment.
“We are now taking to the nearest hospital for medication owing to neutralize the effects of torture” Lawyer Eron informed after court.
“Kakwenza has been granted bail of 10 Million cash for both him and the sureties and the next hearing is June 6, 2020, the state didn’t oppose the bail but keen on the stringent terms but happy for his release” Lawyer noted.
The journalist/writer/author of the famous political book “The Greedy Barbarians” was arrested late March by security personnels both in uniform and civilian attires, from his Busei A residence and taken to unknown places not until his lawyer Eron Kiiza security habeas corpus orders which forced them to vomit him in court early last month.
Kakwenza who was brought with other suspects using a taxi, seemed weak and broken.
