SICKLE CELL FIGHT: BUGANDA HANDS OVER 110 M TO CENTRAL LAB BUTABIKA

Buganda kingdom has handed over 110 million shillings to central public health butabika that was collected from the kabaka’s birth day run 2017.
While handing over the funds at bulange mengo, Buganda premier Charles peter mayiga appealed to the leaders of the central public health laboratory to utilize the resources responsibly.
Mayiga also re-emphasized the fact that sickle cell is a genetic disease which people not witch craft.
In the same way the State Minister of Health for General Duties Sarah opendi revealed that central government has a plan of establishing functional sickle cell clinics in every district as one of the measures of extending services to those affected with sickle cell disease
Various partners that partnered with Buganda kingdom during this year’s kabaka’s birthday run have been awarded including  airtel, Kampala capital city authority among others.
The demographic survey on sickle cells 2016 indicates that about 12,000 to 16,000 children below five years die of sickle cell disease annually in Uganda.
