Mukono District Council has adopted a resolution to engage the services of Buikwe District Service Commission for staff recruitment while awaiting the establishment of its own commission. This decision was reached during a council session held on Thursday.

The motion to seek assistance from Buikwe District was proposed by Asuman Muhumuza, the Vice Chairperson of Mukono District. Muhumuza emphasized the necessity of external support during the interim period as the district works towards establishing its own commission.

Council members deliberated on various options, including engaging the service commissions of neighboring districts such as Wakiso, Kayunga, Buvuma, and Buikwe. Upon voting, 33 councilors supported the motion, while three opposed it, citing concerns about potential conflicts with existing laws.

Betty Hope Nakasi, the Speaker of Mukono District Council, underscored the urgency of addressing the employment gap within the district. She urged council members to prioritize the community’s interests in their decision-making process.

The issue of staff recruitment has been a subject of contention in previous council meetings. In 2022, Rev. Bakaluba Mukasa presented nominees for the district service commission, including Gerald Muguluma Kiraga as chairperson, and Stella Margret Kiondo and Edward William Kisimagwa as members. However, the councilors rejected these nominees, expressing doubts about the selection process and accusing the LCV Chairperson of favoritism towards his supporters.

In response to the rejection of the nominees, the LCV Chairperson withdrew the proposed candidates and pledged to nominate new individuals. However, instead of pursuing this course, he proposed the idea of seeking assistance from neighboring districts’ service commissions.
