There no Cuban doctors in Uganda yet-PS Dr. Atwine

By Ronald Kabuye
The permanent secretary in the ministry of health Dr Diana Atwine has downplayed speculations and assertions that Cuban doctors are already in the country on official contract with the same ministry.
Dr. Atwine said that the ministry of heath is waiting for the cabinet to sit and discuss about the same issue and than furnish them with detailed facts and report but apparently she knows nothing about the progress of the matter.
Dr Atwine however said that decision to bring in the Cuban doctors was informed by the few supervisors and specialists in the government health centres especially in the internee training centres which they expanded from 26 to 35 and now looking at further expanding them to 50 due to the tremendous growth of medicine students.
She claimed that the spealcialists in the country donot apply for the vacancies when advertised  by the health services commission though she added that she is optimistic that this time round they apply following the proposed salary increment.
Doctor Atwine also revealed that the ministry of health is systematically laying off workers without formal employment contract with them before refuting allegations that the ghost workers in her ministry accounts for 40% of the total work force.
