Traffic police collects 17.7bn in fika salama operation

The director of traffic and road safety in the uganda police AIGP stephen Kasime has revealed that his directorate collected 17.7 billion shillings from fika salama operations last year 2017.
Accordingly they registered 197,529 traffic offenders in the same year.
Amongst these 8589 were arrested for careless driving, 7942 arrested for driving vehicles in dangerous machinical condition, 4085 had no valid permits, 3842 were driving beyond speed limits amongst others.
In the same year a total of 3500 were killed in accidents with pedestrians being the most killed accounting for 1319 deaths followed by motorcyclist accounting for 918 deaths among others . Those who seriously injured were 10,420 and slightly injured were 934
In the same way kampala metropolitan area had the most accident followed by the Albertine and Rwizi regions.
Most accident happened between a period of October and January.
In order to curb these accidents, Kasima said more efforts are to be in continuous sensitization and inspection.
