KAMPALA:  Uganda professional driver’s network (UPDN) together with the truck driver’s committee Covid-19 taskforce, have appealed to the public to stop the attacks against them and vindicating them as the core cause of the COVID19 spread in the country.

Speaking during their meeting, the track driver’s spokesperson Mr. Byron Kinene urged the public to stop judging them since it’s not their making but rather an occupation hazard, they face against their will while providing services.

He also accused the East African countries of selfishness since they have failed to work together  in combating the common enemy which is the pandemic.

“The biggest problem is that our countries work in isolation as opposed to working together.

Apparently, Uganda is very serious about testing truck driver’s but our neighboring countries where get goods and cargos from are reluctant about the same which gives room for the pandemic spread.” Said Byron.

He also decried of the heavy traffic at boarder point which he asserts also contribute to the virus spread since some truck drivers at Elegu and Nimule have spent over a week in the same place.

He also revealed that south Sudanese force truck drivers to carry passengers whose status is not known.

“Unfortunately, at the side of South Sudan after testing negative again they force us to take passengers who are not tested which has made us vulnerable to catching the virus. We appeal to our government and East Africa Community to work together in abide to end Covid-19 pandemic since Uganda can’t do it alone” Said Byron

Meanwhile Byrone revealed that they support government’s arrangement of only allowing negative truck drivers into the country.
