Following President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’ directive to reactivate all SIM cards which were deactivated by the Uganda communication commission UCC on the 19th may and extension of the registration date to the 30th day of August 2017, the Uganda communications commission has today directed all telecommunication operators to reactivate all registered subscribers whose SIM cards were deactivated immediately.
Addressing the press at the Uganda communications commission (UCC) headquarters in Bugolobi, the executive Godfrey Mutabazzi revealed the in their closed meeting they agreed with telecommunications operators to reactivate the card so as to give subscribers more time to register within the 90 days as directed by the president.
He re-echoed that all subscribers will only be registered using their national ID’s for Ugandans; valid passports for non-Ugandans and for refugees shall use refugee cards and letters from the prime minister.
According to Mutabaazi, so far 22 million people have registered.
Yesterday the Telecom operators declined to reactivate the affected sim cards reasoning that they cannot operate on a mere directive issued on the official twitter handle of the president since it can also be hacked into.
