Human right activities are calling Government to abolish the death penalty because it is not a deterrent to address grave offenses in the country

The executive director foundation for human rights initiative Livingstone sewanyana said that, the death penalty should be replaced by life imprisonment, because it gives people opportunity to reform and be exemplary in their communities.

He adds that some times, the criminal justice system is not effective and   eventually innocent people end up committed to death.   In Uganda the last execution for civilian offenders was done in 1999.
