With just one year and two months in office as the Uganda Investment Authority UIA executive director, Jolly Kaguhangire has been interdicted from that office for a period of three months over corruption allegations by the institution’s board of directors effective Tuesday 26th of June 2018.
The board that sat on Tuesday 26th June resolved to interdict Kaguhangire on grounds of abuse of office, insurbodination, misleading and lying to the board, non compliance with implementation of the strategic plan in defiance of the directive of the ministry of finance and board of directors on the one year implementation, closure of a public office without authorization (UIA Namanve office), serious corruption allegations made by UIA staff against her that touch on her integrity as the head of UIA.
In an effort to reach a final just decision, the board of directors appointed a select committee to investigate the grounds of her interdiction which commitee will also give her a chance to defend herself before it.
Kaguhangire has also been directed to hand over the office to Mr. Basil Ajer, the director SME and STI who will act as ED for the three months of her interdiction.
This means Kaguhangire will be earning half pay of her salary according to the public service standing order.
This all is contained in the letter signed by the chairperson UIA board of directors Mr Ernely Kugonza, copied to the minister of finance, planning and economic development, minister of state for privatization and investment and the permanent secretary/ secretary to the treasurer.
Kaguhangire has had a torrid time at the institution ever since she took a decision to fire most of the staff she found at UIA and hire mostly western learning staff.
